Perth, is the capital of Western Australia and the fastest developing city in Western Australia. During the last couple of decades dozens of new modern office buildings have gone up which create the most recognisable silhouette of the city today.
Among the skyscrapers you can also see such architectural pearls of the colonial period as the Old Court House and the Old Mill. There are also a number of parks, reserves and sports areas.
Perth is now regarded as being one of the most interesting educational centres in the country. Every year it attracts lots of students enamoured with the remote location of the city (it is closer to Singapore than Sydney) and its rich delights for tourists.
The city has one and a half million residents. Its hot climate and high temperatures mean that the city does not really come alive until the evening when people fill up the streets lined with cafes and clubs. At the weekends people congregate around café terraces, tennis courts and the beaches.
The river Swan runs through the city and looks particularly beautiful at night with the lights of the city centre´s commercial buildings reflected in its surface. After dusk, when the city centre becomes quieter, the city´s night life takes over in other districts, like the old port district of Freemantle. In the pubs, restaurants, night clubs and concert halls you can hear jazz, classical music and disco.
Wine and beer in Australia. Its warm climate and relatively high rainfall create ideal conditions for growing almost every variety of grape. It is not surprising that Perth´s Swan Valley and Margaret River region are famous for their excellent wines. Travelling around Western Australia offers you the unique opportunity to try some of these varieties yourself. However, if wine is not your tipple then do not forget that Perth is also home to some of the most famous breweries in the world.
Namburg National Park. The part of this park which lies north of Perth consists of the picturesque Pinnacles desert region where many strange and irregularly shaped, pyramid-like rocks emerge from the sand creating the impression of an ancient city.
Monkey Mia. This bay is considered to be one of the most beautiful places in the region. It is formally part of the Bay of Sharks but its biggest attraction is the presence of whole families of dolphins who draw tourists from all over the world to come and watch them.
Ningaloo Coral Reef. A superb miniature of the Great Barrier Reef in eastern Australia. The Ningaloo Reef is not far from Exmouth in the Ningaloo Water Park and is rich in different types of coral, fish, snails and anemones. During underwater trips you can also see here giant turtles as well as the biggest fish in the world, the great white shark.
Kimberley. Kimberley is known for its red crisscrossing desert ravines and lush green forests. These expansive uplands are also famous for their enormous baobabs, waterfalls and the world´s largest diamond mine. Due to its remote location many elements of Aboriginal tradition remain untouched and unaltered until today.
Camel Trip. In Broome you can go on trip riding on Australian camels! The rides are organised every morning or after sunset. The sight of these specially trained camels marching along the edge of the ocean makes a wonderful impression.
